Illinois DUI attorney Lewis Gainor successfully defended a multiple DUI offender in 2006. The man was arrested on November 4, 2006 by officers from the Waukegan Police Department. He was driving late at night and pulled over for a traffic violation. They detected the odor of alcohol on the man’s breath and initiated a DUI investigation. After determining that they had probable cause for arrest, they handcuffed the man. The police took him into custody and towed the car.

At the police station, the police ran the man’s driving record for prior DUI convictions. They were surprised to find this was his sixth DUI arrest. Because of this, the Waukegan police contacted the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office for approval of felony charges. The State’s Attorney charged him as a Class X offender, the highest criminal charge in Illinois. The man was facing sentencing of 6 to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections if he were found guilty, and no possibility of probation.
