Lake County criminal law attorney Lewis Gainor successfully defended a man from Round Lake Beach who was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. The man was arrested on July 2, 2005. On that date, he was driving the family car and got pulled over. The police officer questioned him about what was inside the vehicle.

After several minutes, the police determined that they had probable cause to search the vehicle. Inside they found metal knuckles, which are illegal in the state of Illinois. They put the man into handcuffs and arrested him. The Round Lake Beach police officers also transported the man to jail. They believed he was a gang member.

Lewis Gainor appeared in court for his client and demanded that the State of Illinois prove the case at trial. The trial commenced on June 21, 2006. At the time, Lake County criminal defense attorney Lewis Gainor was wearing a sling because he had injured his shoulder. He actually

tried the case with only one hand.

During the State’s case, Lewis Gainor cross-examined the police officers to show that the car did not belong to his client. It was, rather, the family car. As a result, no one could know who owned the metal knuckles that were inside the vehicle.

The jury began to deliberate, and at 2:08 p.m., they returned their verdict: not guilty.
